I’ve been using (and working with) Beautycounter for over four years, and our new clean deodorant is the most highly anticipated product launch we’ve EVER had! I’m SO excited to share my Beautycounter Clean Deo review with you today. Not only has this been long awaited, it’s also a topic that’s personally important to me for so many reasons.

Beautycounter’s new clean deo was five years in the making - that’s right, five years! They have tested and re-tested to get this formula just right. And while I’ll get into more details in the review below, I can tell you from experience, it delivers! I’ve been using it for months (consultants got a sneak peek!) and have been so blown away. From its performance, to its ingredients, to its sustainability, I can safely say this deodorant is unmatched in the market.

I started switching to a clean deodorant shortly after I started working with Beautycounter. It’s just one of the many unexpected perks that come with being a consultant - being surrounded with a huge community of women bent on educating others about ways to live healthier, cleaner lifestyles. When my mom was diagnosed with dementia and I started reading about the links between aluminum in our bodies and diseases like dementia and alzheimer’s, it really struck a cord for me and choosing a natural deodorant that was aluminum-free became even more critical.

What is Clean Deo?

Beautycounter’s Clean Deo is a long-lasting, hardworking deodorant that neutralizes odor and absorbs sweat to keep you feeling fresh all day, every day. Made without aluminum, it glides on smoothly without leaving white residue. It’s available in three scents - coconut, soft lavender and fresh rose.

What are the benefits?

Beyond safer ingredients, the Clean Deo has many key benefits. It effectively fights body odor, absorbs sweat, glides on smoothly (so it doesn’t leave any of that crumbly white residue on your clothes or under arms), and - one of the best parts - it’s refillable! By making this deodorant refillable and recyclable, Beautycounter cut its water, fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 47% and helps minimize waste in landfills. I’d say that’s a pretty big benefit!

How does it work?

The Clean Deo is made with non-GMO cornstarch and baking soda, which work together to help absorb wetness and keep skin dry, while also helping to neutralize body odor. It also has coconut oil and shea butter to help skin feel hydrated, nourished and smooth, and eliminate that dry rough sensation that many natural deodorants have. Plus, candelilla wax and beeswax aid in further conditioning the skin.

Why is natural deodorant so important?

Beyond just having safer ingredients and being free from aluminum, it’s actually safer to switch from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant like the Clean Deo. When you use a typical antiperspirant, it can actually trap toxins in your sweat ducts. By switching to a deodorant, you’re allowing your body to work its natural process - so you can start to detox all of those toxins.

Do I need to detox?

Which brings me to a frequently asked question - do I need to detox when I’m switching to a natural deodorant? The answer is, possibly! It can take several weeks for your underarms to detox from the toxins that have been trapped in sweat ducts by antiperspirants, and you might experience a (temporary) odor. Trust me - it’s worth the wait. I sweat SO much less than I ever did when I used an antiperspirant, and the detox process really wasn’t that long (or that painful).
